The Irrelevant Election

Hello. As you may have noticed, there is a Canadian federal election scheduled for Oct 14th. Some people have called it irrelevant. And that could very well be true.
When Stephane Dion was made the leader of the Liberal Party, there was a hot button issue, namely the environment. The Conservative Party seemed to be going against the grain. Some would say they still are. However, enough has been done in the past two years to give the impression everyone is concerned about the environment. So the difference between parties is seen as less relevant.
So why have an election now? There's been a long time between elections with a minority government in place. Stephen Harper may think he can get a majority. And that could be the case. He may also think he cannot lose power. And that may also be the case.
If we end up where we were (a Conservative minority) it may be an irrelevant election after all.

Regards,
Irrelevant
