The Irrelevant Minimum Wage

Hello. The Toronto Star has been doing a super job about covering poverty. They are doing the most important job media can do - raising awareness. Needless to say, there has been a huge public outcry to do something about poverty in Ontario. In fact, one issue which is getting a lot of support, and may end up being the biggest economic election issue, is raising the minimum wage from $8 to $10. The MPPs have said this will result in job loss, but no studies have been done to verify this position.
My question is, would you want to work for a company that is only paying minimum wage, with no other benefits (ie working at a golf course for minimum wage and getting free golf is okay)? If not, then minimum wage is irrelevant.
Actually, minimum wage could serve as an indicator of whether an employer is someone you want to work for. If they think $10/hour is preposterous, that should be a sign to stay away.
Employers should bypass the irrelevant minimum wage, and do what's right by their employees, including not hiring more if they can't afford it. Treat the employees you have with dignity, employers, and the rewards will be beyond your wildest dreams.

Regards,
Irrelevant
