The Irrelevant NHLPA

This blog is written mostly tongue in cheek. Some points may be informative. Please provide your feedback.

Hello. The NHLPA has had a tough time of late. They have now suspended Ted Saskin indefinitely with pay, setting the stage for a successor. However, does it really matter who is in charge? The NHLPA has become irrelevant.
Why? Consider there is no mandatory face protection even though all the players entering the NHL wore it in junior and minor hockey. There's only one part of a player's anatomy they cannot play without, their eyes. Yet it's the only one the NHLPA doesn't seem to want to protect.
And when players are assaulted on the ice, the cry comes out that the victim should have been aware of the situation. Come again? Tell Thomas Kaberle and Steve Moore, among many others, that they deserved what happened to them.
The question I have for the NHLPA is what if you went leaderless and no one noticed? I think that will happen, because the NHLPA has become irrelevant.

Regards,
Irrelevant
