The Irrelevant Hype

This blog is written mostly tongue in cheek. Some points may be infromative. Please provide your feedback.

Hello. Well, it's Super Bowl week. Yippee! I'm looking forward to the game.
The part leading up to it, however, is irrelevant.
Why? Because there's so much media and buildup (I believe the word is hype), yet no real news. In fact, the most NFL newsworthy thing has nothing to do with the Super Bowl. It's the announcement Toronto will host 3 preseason and 5 regular season Buffalo Bills games over the next 5 years.
For a team having a chance to have the first perfect season, New England has been very quiet. So have the Giants. If I were them, I wouldn't want any hype. In fact, I don't want hype, and I'm not them!
This game should be great on its own (go Giants!). The hype is irrelevant and unnecessary.

The Irrelevant Performance

This blog is written mostly tongue in cheek. Some points may be informative. Please provide your feedback.
If you suffer from self-irrelevancy, please seek professional advice.

Hello. Last night I curled terribly. Yet my performance was irrelevant.
Why? Because I wasn't alone. Our whole team played poorly.
This team I play on is 0 for 2008. Our last win was in mid-December.
I thought I was playing well in 2007, but 2008 has been a disaster. But again it's irrelevant.
When you're on a team this bad, no one performance is going to make or break you.
Can we improve? We should be able to. Talent wise this is the best team I've ever played with. Chemistry wise it's the worst. "Philosophical differences" and untimely play have been our downfall.
However, in order to do it, it will require all of us changing for the better. One improved performance is irrelevant.

The Irrelevant Talking

This blog is written mostly tongue in cheek. Some points may be informative. Please provide your feedback.
If you suffer from self-irrelevancy, please seek professional advice.

Hello. If an irrelevant person talks, does anyone care?
No. And that's why it doesn't matter if I talk.
I can just talk to myself. I can talk out loud. Doesn't matter.
I can use a cartoon voice. I can talk normally. Doesn't matter.
I can talk loud or soft. Doesn't matter.
I can talk fast or slow. Doesn't matter.
I can speak English or French. Doesn't matter.
I can spit while talking, or swallow when talking. Doesn't matter.
No matter how/if I talk, it's irrelevant.

The Irrelevant Matchup II

This blog is written mostly tongue in cheek. Some points may be informative. Please provide your feedback.
If you suffer from self-irrelevancy, please seek professional advice.

Hello. Well, on Thursday I said the Tiger/Phil golf matchup was irrelevant because Steve Duplantis Jr had passed away. And that's still true. Steve was memorialized with ribbons on the caps of the PGA Tour players, which was a nice touch. I'll be going to Steve's funeral visitation today. The service is tomorrow.
Turns out, the Tiger/Phil matchup was also irrelevant because Tiger was that much better than everyone else, winning by 8 strokes. To be fair to Mr. Mickelson, health was an issue. He seemed to be labouring. And he did finish sixth, which is a nice achievement for someone playing their first tournament of the year.
However, it seems Phil and everyone else this year is going to have a tough time matching what Tiger is going to put up. The rest of the field may become irrelevant.

The Irrelevant Matchup

This blog is written mostly tongue in cheek. Some points may be informative. Please provide your feedback.
If you suffer from self-irrelevancy, please seek professional advice.

Hello. For many, the real PGA golf season starts today, as Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson are making their 2008 debuts. While I am interested, this matchup has now become irrelevant to me.
Why? Because last night I found out Steve Duplantis Jr, a PGA Tour caddie, was killed by a taxi in San Diego. He was 35. He leaves behind a daughter, who must be around 10.
I've known Steve Duplantis Sr for 11 years. I just left him a voicemail offering my sympathies. Can there be a worse experience than losing a child?
I got to meet Steve Jr a couple of times. While many people (including me) could never keep up to him as he "burned the candle at both ends", he was a guy you couldn't help liking.
Compared to this, the anticipated Tiger/Phil showdown is irrelevant.

The Irrelevant Sports Shows

This blog is written mostly tongue in cheek. Some points may be informative. Please provide your feedback.
If you suffer from self-irrelevancy, please seek professional advice.

Hello. I find myself listening to sports talk shows quite a bit lately. Many of them are quite entertaining. It shows a different side of sports.
However, other than getting entertained, I find them to be irrelevant.
Why? Because they are dealing with things which have no answer. They can't get the goods on sports issues. They don't have the inside knowledge. And they can never get it.
While all their talk is about different future situations, or different reasons for why a current situation exists, it's all an academic exercise to be kind. Speculation is another term.
Will these "journalists" ever turn their knowledge to something more relevant, like how to solve problems? Will they ever convince their sponsors to trade their advertising money for donor money? I doubt it.

The Irrelevant GM

This blog is written mostly tongue in cheek. Some points may be informative. Please provide your feedback.
If you suffer from self-irrelevancy, please seek professional advice.

Hello. Congrats to John Ferguson Jr for being able to get on with his life. To finally get his walking papers must've been a huge relief.
Unless you live in a cave, JFJ was the Toronto Maple Leafs' GM. Cliff Fletcher has taken over on an interim basis.
Will this move help? I think it's irrelevant.
Why? Because the Leafs are not going to win the Stanley Cup any time soon. They have dysfunctional ownership. The GM is either a pawn or a scapegoat.
The Leafs made lots of money and didn't win the cup before JFJ. They did the same thing during JFJ's employment. And they'll do the same thing for the near and long-term future.
Next time, Leafs, make a relevant change.

The Irrelevant Feel

This blog is written mostly tongue in cheek. Some points may be informative. Please provide your feedback.
If you suffer from self-irrelevancy, please seek professional advice.

Hello. Yesterday we celebrated my sister-in-law's birthday. One item she received was a sweater. She looked at it, felt it, then said to my brother and me, "Doesn't this sweater feel nice?".
The thing was, my brother and I were a fair distance away from her. We couldn't reach the sweater. And my sister-in-law wasn't straining to pass it to us.
At this point I realized feeling the sweater was irrelevant. Why? Because I was going to say "it feels nice" no matter what.
My brother and I looked at each other, said "yeah, it feels nice", then laughed. My sister-in-law was happy we agreed with her. She wondered why we laughed, however.
Always know how to answer, because your true thoughts are irrelevant.

The Irrelevant Curling II

This blog is written mostly tongue in cheek. Some points may be informative. Please provide your feedback.
If you suffer from self-irrelevancy, please provide your feedback.

Yesterday, I mentioned the curling most competitive curlers do is irrelevant. It's not irrelevant to them personally, because every bonspiel has a chance to get them one step closer to a higher playing level. However, it is irrelevant in that if a team misses a bonspiel, it doesn't really matter if they get to the Brier or Scotties.
It's also irrelevant to Joe and Jane Fan, because the Season of Champions (Brier, Scotties and Worlds) and the Olympics and Olympic Trials are the main reasons for watching. The Grand Slam of Curling is wonderful curling, but because it's not tied into the events mentioned above, it's also irrelevant.
Would it make sense to make these events more meaningful to Joe and Jane Fan? A sort of relevant regular season? Please let me know.

The Irrelevant Curling

This blog is written mostly tongue in cheek. Some points may be informative. Please provide your feedback.
If you suffer from self-irrelevancy, please seek professional advice.

Hello. Competitive curlers are among the most dedicated athletes in sports. All of them have some form of employment, and/or depend on a spouse or other support system to ply their trade. Many curl in bonspiels of varying levels in all parts of Canada and even abroad.
I travelled to my first multi-day bonspiel in December. It was a strain. To do that every weekend would be tough. And to at least throw rocks the rest of the time would also be difficult as well.
Having said that, most of the curling these curlers do is irrelevant.
Why? First of all, the money is not enough to keep them going. Usually they're fortunate to make expenses.
Second, the only relevant competitions are the Canadian championships, and the playdowns to get there.

The Irrelevant Dog Poop Weather

This blog is written mostly tongue in cheek. Some points may be informative. Please provide your feedback.
If you suffer from self-irrelevancy, please seek professional advice.

Hello. Last Thursday was the perfect day for cleaning up our back yard. The snow was gone. The wind was non-existent. The temperature was around freezing. And there before my eyes was over a month's worth of dog poop, just waiting for me to get it.
Because of the ideal weather, the dog poop was relatively easy to pick up. It was solid from being somewhat frozen. It didn't stick to the grass. I was in heaven! I spent 75 minutes getting every last bit from the lawn.
When my spouse got home, I couldn't contain my enthusiasm. Unfortunately it fell on deaf ears. To my spouse, the weather was irrelevant.
Was I shattered? Not really. I understood, because I would've been the one to pick it up even if there was snow until April. Therefore, my spouse couldn't have been as excited as me.

The Irrelevant Source

This blog is written mostly tongue in cheek. Some points may be informative. Please provide your feedback.
If you suffer from self-irrelevancy, please seek professional advice.

Hello. Just finished reading "Your Money or Your Life". Wonderful book! I had high hopes, and it exceeded them, even though the book's messages weren't what I thought they would be.
My spouse does not read this type of book. I would like this book to be read by my spouse. If I just translate it, I'm afraid the messages will be ignored.
Why? Because I'm an irrelevant person, it also means I'm an irrelevant source. As a result, anything I say to my spouse about this book will be ignored, and rightfully so.
How can I get my spouse to focus only on what I'm saying, instead of where it's coming from? I'm not sure. I've tried before, with no success. If anyone reading this knows, please feel free to reply to this blog.

The Irrelevant Comment

This blog is written mostly tongue in cheek. Some points may be informative. Please provide your feedback.
If you suffer from self-irrelevancy, please seek professional advice.

Hello. Kelly Tilghman of The Golf Channel has been suspended for two weeks by the network for saying that players hoping to challenge Tiger Woods should "lynch him in a back alley". Kelly immediately apologized to the Woods camp, and they stated it's a non-issue. I agree, the comment is irrelevant.
Why? First, broadcasters on-air live for hours have every opportunity to mess up. In my one and only 5 minute radio interview, that was the only thought going through my mind. Don't use profanity. Don't offend. It shows how good these broadcasters are that they don't mess up often.
Second, there was no profanity. And believe it or not, there was no racial slur. If this comment was made about a white golfer, it would've generated no buzz. Tiger is thought of as a golfer, not a black golfer.
Save blogging and outrage for something relevant. This issue is dead. Let it go.

The Irrelevant Game Rules

This blog is written mostly tongue in cheek. Some points may be informative. Please provide your feedback.
If you suffer from self-irrelevancy, please seek professional advice.

Hello. This evening my son and I played a couple of board games. Because my sone is 6, and is just starting to read, he didn't look at the game rules. Neither did I. Why? Because it's irrelevant.
My son wants to play these board games a certain way. Later on it would concern me a little. After all, I want him to play fairly when he's older. Right now, however, it's no concern at all. He goes first every time. He gets every favourable break. Certain conditions (all bad) don't apply to him.
Does he win all the time? Actually, he's altered the rules enough so there are no winners. If someone gets to the finish line, the rest keep playing until they arrive too. Only then is the game over.
Make sure your rules are relevant to the situation, and are not taken literally.

The Irrelevant Irony

Hello. Thanks for the feedback yesterday. It was greatly appreciated.
Today I found out the head of our automotive auction site passed away. My deepest sympathies to her and her family.
What was ironic about her passing was after 55 years of handling car auctions, she passed away in an auto accident. This fact would probably make it more newsworthy, but it's totally irrelevant.
Why? Because her family is suffering the same amount. It didn't matter whether she passed by accident or natural causes.
What this death made me realize is how many of today's "top" news stories are based on irony, when they should be based on relevant facts. May you rest in peace.

The Irrelevant Change

Hello, and Happy New Year! Are you ready to make some New Year's Resolutions stick this year?
If you're irrelevant, it doesn't matter, because any change you make will be irrelevant. No one will care about your change, because they don't care about you.
Isn't it freeing? Talk about no pressure! I can say or do whatever I want, because I'm irrelevant.
I can become completely rude. I could say that Hannah Montana is lousy (which I'd never do). I can gain lots of weight. I can eat anything. I can wear anything (or nothing!). I can watch TV all day. I can phone people or not, and they won't care.
Here's to change for change's sake!
